About
Satin and Satin Sheets
Satin is not
produced from one specific fiber. In fact, satin is produced by
weaving or by knitting fibers to produce a luster and shine on a
fabric. Common fibers used to produce a satin fabric are silk, rayon,
acetate, nylon, and polyester.
Woven satin materials are produced by weaving filling yarns over
warp yarns. Threads are woven in such a way as to achieve a smooth,
shinny appearance on the front side of the fabric. The back side
of woven satin lacks the shine of the front side. The quality of
woven satin is achieved by the amount and denier of the threads
used to create the fabric. Higher thread counts achieve more luster
and are considered to be better quality satins. A three hundred
thread count or higher is considered to produce good quality sheets.
The type of fiber used in the creation of satin, also helps to determine
the quality of a woven satin. Silk is considered the finest quality
satin; however it is expensive and requires exceptional care. Silk
satin sheets sets usually can cost between $300.00 and $500.00.
Most acetate satin is cheaper than other satin fabrics, but acetate
satin usually requires expensive dry cleaning. Acetate satin can
be damaged easily by water and is easily torn.
Knitted polyester
satin has evolved into a satin fabric that impersonates the sheen
and touch of bridal and silk satins. However, not all knitted polyester
satins are the same quality. The grade of a knitted satin is determined
by the denier of the yarns used to manufacture the satin. Many knitted
satins that are produced today use mono-filament strands bound tightly
together. Although this produces a lovely luster, it renders a satin
fabric that is uncomfortable and feels hard to the touch. Manufacturers
must apply a sizing finish to the fabric to help soften the feel.
The use of multi-filament strands creates greater luster and softness.
Another feature of finer denure polyester satin is its ability to
breathe and to wick moisture away from the body. This wicking characteristic
creates a comfortable feel summer, winter, fall, or spring. Many
performance fabrics found in ski apparel and athletic wear are made
with the same fine denure polyester fabric because of its exceptional
wicking capabilities.
Satin Sheet-A-Gram
satin sheets are made of fine denier polyester. All of our satin
fabric and our satin sheets and satin pillowcases are manufactured
in the United States. The fine denure used in the production of
our satin simulates the feel of expensive bridal and silk satin.
Satin Sheet-A-Gram satin sheets and satin pillowcases possess a
beautiful luster and opulent softness. Our sheets’ ability
to breathe and wick moisture away from the body creates a sheet
that is luxurious and comfortable to sleep on during the hottest
or coldest days of the year. An anti-snag finish is applied to Satin
Sheet-A-Gram satin sheets and satin pillowcases to complete the
feeling of luxury.
